I have been searching for a sucessful (and easy) way to clean and coat the molds - this is what I found Krylon makes both a mold protector and cleaner for industrial use- I called them and they suggested the F00303 spray for protecting - said it is food grade (as the creatures will be around my grandkids) and okay in temps up to 550 so should be okay in the thingmaker and the F00351 for cleaning the molds - I also told them the molds were made out of zinc so they'd consider that- The downside is it's only available in case lots and they go through dealers, but the gentleman gave me the names of two local dealers to try- I haven't tried it yet as I just found it this morning, but it might be worth considering. Also Patti Goop is just wonderful!

HI,
The molds are made from an Aluminum alloy, not Zinc. Zinc is soft and would be very heavy and shiney if scratched. You may want to be careful of any cleaners that would attack Aluminum,

What about using baking soda to neutralize the acids in vinegar etc while cleaning?

I dont know I just wanted to bring up the idea of baking soda for some reason . . . .
